Welcome from the Principals

Dr. Roy Martin

I am honored to be joining the North Salem Middle School and High School community as Principal, and I do not take the responsibility lightly. My approach to leadership is fundamentally relational. Trust, clarity, and consistency are the cornerstones of sustainable improvement, and I have built my career around that belief. During my time at PQ, we were able to rebuild systems, strengthen culture, and ignite instructional excellence. I intend to bring that same energy and commitment to the MSHS. My focus will be on building upon the strong foundation that exists here, deepening coherence across the building, and continuing to grow a culture of high expectations and genuine care for every student.

I am also excited to continue working alongside Dawn Snowdon, incoming Principal of PQ, as we share a deep commitment to building a coherent and consistently aligned Pre-K through 12 experience for every student in North Salem. Together, we understand that schools rise to the strength of their systems, the clarity of their expectations, and the health of their culture. As building principals, our partnership reflects a unified direction across the district, one grounded in vertical alignment, long-range vision, and an unwavering focus on student outcomes at every level.

Mrs. Shereene Shames

Mrs. Shames holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Manhattan University, a Master of Science in Adolescent and Special Education from Mercy University, and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Administration from the College of Saint Rose.  She is certified in Biology (7-12), Students with Disabilities (7-12), and as a School Building and School District Leader.

Prior to joining the NSCSD, she began her career as a HS science teacher with the NYCDOE and Mamaroneck HS, later serving in the Mount Vernon City School District as a MS science teacher and Assistant Principal.  In 2019, she was accepted into the NYSED P-20 Partnership for Principal Preparation Program and attended national conferences on leadership and whole school reform.

Mrs. Shames is a strong advocate for collaboration and believes organizations thrive through shared learning and growth. Her transition into administration reflects her commitment to making a meaningful, schoolwide impact while continuing to support teachers, students, and families in achieving their full potential through authentic educational experiences.

Mr. Rich Leprine

I began my career in public education as a high school English teacher and ice hockey coach. After 12 years in the classroom and on the ice, I transitioned into administration, serving as a high school assistant principal for four years and spending the next 16 years as a principal at both the high school and middle school levels. Since retiring, I have had the privilege of serving as an interim administrator in several high-performing Westchester school districts similar to North Salem.

I continue to embrace these wonderful opportunities to connect with students and staff across different communities while sharing my experience and passion for teaching and learning. I view every school year as a chance to contribute to the unique “magic” that exists within a school. The energy and enthusiasm of the students are truly contagious, and they continue to fuel my journey.

I am thrilled to join North Salem Middle/High School for the upcoming school year. My goal, as always, is to support every student and staff member as they strive to reach their full potential. Active participation, intentional listening, and continuous learning remain central to everything I do in the pursuit of excellence for all students.
