Welcome from the Principals

Mr. Vincent DiGrandi

Mr. DiGrandi holds a BA in Communications from Fordham University, an MA in Elementary Education from Fairfield University and a Professional Certificate in Administration from Sacred Heart University’s College of Education and Health Professions. Before becoming the North Salem MSHS Principal, Vince was the Mahopac Middle School Principal and held several administrative positions in the Wappingers Central School District including John Jay High School Assistant Principal, Wappingers Junior High School Principal, and Fishkill Plains Elementary Principal. Prior to entering administration, Vince began his teaching career in Westport, Connecticut.

Dr. Kathleen Murphy

Dr. Kathleen (Kate) Murphy is a former science teacher and Department Chair of Science at North Salem Middle/High School where she taught (Regents) Earth Science to freshmen and Forensic Science to upperclassman for 11 years. Dr. Murphy was accepted into the New York State Master Teacher Program and then made the shift into administration to take on the role of Assistant Principal at North Salem Middle / High School. She appreciates the challenges and opportunities to learn in this position every year.

Kathleen's educational experiences includes a Certificate in Educational Administration, a Doctorate of Education in Instructional Leadership, a Master’s of Science in Instructional Technology, and a Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Education: Earth Science. Her favorite part of the school day is talking to students, visiting classes, and supporting the day to day learning.

Shereene Shames

Mrs. Shames holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Manhattan University, a Master of Science in Adolescent and Special Education from Mercy University, and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Administration from the College of Saint Rose.  She is certified in Biology (7-12), Students with Disabilities (7-12), and as a School Building and School District Leader.

Prior to joining the NSCSD, she began her career as a HS science teacher with the NYCDOE and Mamaroneck HS, later serving in the Mount Vernon City School District as a MS science teacher and Assistant Principal.  In 2019, she was accepted into the NYSED P-20 Partnership for Principal Preparation Program and attended national conferences on leadership and whole school reform.

Mrs. Shames is a strong advocate for collaboration and believes organizations thrive through shared learning and growth. Her transition into administration reflects her commitment to making a meaningful, schoolwide impact while continuing to support teachers, students, and families in achieving their full potential through authentic educational experiences.
